Knowing how to drive in wet weather can prevent accidents

During the spring season in Akron, you can expect plenty of wet weather to hit the local area. While this may not sound like a big deal, it should change the way you drive. If it doesn't, you may be making mistakes that increase the chance of being involved in an accident.

While you cannot control how others drive in the rain, you can control every move that you make. For this reason, here are a few tips to follow when the rain begins to fall:

-- Don't use cruise control. Even if you are driving a long distance on the highway, you should not use this if it is raining. Doing so will increase the chance of losing control of your vehicle.

-- Slow down. If nothing else, you should always drive slower in the rain. Neglecting to do so will absolutely increase the chance of causing an accident.

-- Leave more room. Don't get too close to other vehicles on the road, as they may not be able to see you in bad conditions. Furthermore, this will give every driver more stopping time.

When you know how to drive in wet weather, you can do your part in preventing an accident.

The problem you may run into is others who don't take the same approach when the rain begins to fall. Instead, they continue to drive just as if it is sunny and dry. Even if you try to keep your distance from these drivers, it only takes one person to cause a serious accident that leads to injury or even death.
