Adams County Horse and Buggy Accident Attorney | Police Putting on Seminar to Help Community Avoid Future Tragedies

The Peeble Fire department along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol held a traffic safety seminar on June 11, 2010 at the Amish Community Center on Wheat Ridge Rd in Union, OH.
 
The seminar helped teach the public about horse and buggy safety, motor vehicle laws, child seat belt laws, and other topics. All were designed to avoid the tragedies that have occurred in the past when modern cars tangle with horse and buggies.

The amish communities in Adams County use horse and buggies. In 2008, a SUV hit a horse and buggy and disaster was barely averted. A Chevy Tahoe went left of center on Wheat Ridge Road and hit the horse and buggy head on. Two adults and four children were injured when they were ejected from the buggy.

It is the hope of local and state officials that the seminar can avoid future disasters and help protect the horse and buggy community. 

In 2008, Adams County had 2 fatal crashes that killed 2 people. There were 24 injury crashes where 41 people were injured.  For a population of only 21,647, the numbers show a telling picture of the dangers on Adams county roads, especially for the horse and buggy drivers, with their limited protections against, faster moving modern cars and trucks.

In 2008, throughout Ohio, there were 53 injuries, 2 fatalities and 81 instances of property damage involving a horse and buggy, which combined accounts for .02 percent of the 564,336 vehicle related accidents.
