Ashtabula County Ohio Truck Accident Lawyer | Kingsville Township Truck Accident Causes Explosion

City: Kingsville Township, Ohio

County: Ashtabula County, Ohio

Date: August 26, 2010

Type: Truck Accident

A truck hit a barrier in the westbound lane of I-90, causing it to explode. The lane the truck was traveling in has been created due to the ongoing construction on I-90. It is unknown if anyone was seriously injured by the explosion. Emergency personnel from Conneaut, Ohio were instructed to block the westbound lane, re-routing all traffic.

Truck accidents are very serious on Ohio roads. The average semi tractor-trailer can weigh over 80,000 pounds. With this much mass, the forces with which a truck hits another car or stationary object can be very large, resulting in serious injuries or death. Trucks, on average, are less maneuverable than cars, take longer to stop than cars, and are harder to control in snow and ice. Making corrections in driving to avoid accidents can also be harder in the larger, bulkier, less maneuverable trucks. In my Ohio personal injury practice, many of the truck accidents I see result in serious injury to one or both parties involved in such a collision.

Another danger that is present in interstate trucking accidents is that unlike passenger cars, many trucks carry cargo that can be dangerous or explosive if it is involved in an impact or accident. This additional danger mandates that truck drivers take extra precautions to make sure that both themselves and the trucks they drive are prepared for driving. No matter how careful a truck driver is, it is true that sometimes accidents happen through no fault of their own. This is why it is so important to give trucks the respect they deserve on Ohio roads.

Ashtabula County, Ohio (population 102,728) had a total of 2,496 reported accidents in 2008, with 15 of those crashes being fatal (18 total fatalities). 672 of the reported crashes were injury crashes, with a total of 981 injuries. Kingsville Township, Ohio (population 1,847) had a total of 70 reported accidents in 2008, with 1 of those being fatal. Ashtabula County saw a decrease in total reported accident in 2009 (2,397).
