Chester Law Group Co., LPA | Ohio Car Crash Deaths Reached a Historic Low in 2009


Traffic deaths in Ohio dropped 14 percent in 2009 to a new historic low making last year the safest year on record for Ohio drivers.
 
According to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), last year there were 952 fatal crashes on Ohio roads. This is a significant decline from 1,099 fatal crashes in 2008.  Motorcycle fatalities and fatal crashes also decreased. One hundred and sixty-three motorcycle deaths resulted from 158 fatal crashes. In 2008, 213 deaths resulted from 212 fatal motorcycle crashes. Alcohol-related fatal car crashes declined 25 percent from 422 in 2008 to 320 in 2009.
 
ODOT attributes the improvement to the state’s emphasis on safety.
