A Cleveland teenager driving a stolen car ran into and killed a 74-year-old man. The teen then died when his vehicle crashed into a wooded area of Interstate 77 in Bath Township.
The fatal car wreck occurred at 12:47 a.m. on April 2, 2010. Kevin Pantojas, a 16-year-old from Cleveland, was driving a 1994 Acura north near mile post 141. The car struck Calvin McMahan of Austintown. McMahon’s vehicle was parked in the northbound rest area. It is believed that he was crossing the highway to reach the southbound rest area.
Pantojas lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center median and southbound lanes and crashed into a heavily wooded area. A passenger in the car with Pantojas was injured and taken to Akron City Hospital.
Both McMahon and Pantojas were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Acura had been reported stolen earlier. It belonged to an Akron man who had been at the Tinseltown movie theater at The Strip and called at 12:30 a.m. after finding the car missing from the parking lot.
The car crash is under investigation.
