Erie County had eleven fatal crashes and 540 injury causing crashes in 2008 according to the ODPS. Berlin Township had no fatalities and 24 injury causing crashes. While there were no fatalities due to loss of cargo there were 60 injuries in 2008 in the state of Ohio. On average there was one person injured every five minutes.
A man and his daughter were traveling on the Ohio Turnpike in Erie County on Saturday June 20th when the vehicle was hit by a loose tire from a passing truck. The Grove City man was eastbound when a tire from an unknown vehicle came over the median and went through the windshield. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his daughter severely injured according to the Milan post of the State Highway Patrol. The State Highway Patrol is still is still trying to locate the truck that lost the tire.
