While few statistics are known about charter buses, the city of Hilliard had no fatal crashes and only thirteen injury causing accidents that were alcohol related in 2008 according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety. Franklin County had 37 fatal crashes and 534 injury causing crashes in 2008. 25,404 men age 46-50 were involved in accidents in 2008, 113 of those ended in fatalities and 6,494 were injury causing. While no one was seriously hurt in the following incident, things could have been a lot worse had one chaperone not been paying attention.

A 46 year-old charter bus driver of Columbus was taking twelve students, and two adult chaperones to Cedar Point in Erie County when he fell asleep at the wheel and veered left of center. One of the chaperones shook him to wake him up but they were already heading for a ditch on the side of the road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol found that the driver’s blood alcohol content was tested at 0.103, over Ohio's legal limit of 0.08. Not only was the driver drunk he also did not have a commercial driving license. While no major injuries were sustained the one chaperone had a minor back injury and was treated at a local hospital.
