A Madison Township man died after attempting to outrun the Madison Village police. The chase came to an end when his vehicle plummeted off an embankment on Interstate 90 in Madison Township. The police chased the man through a single-lane construction area when he pulled off into the grass and continued driving, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. He continued along for a few hundred feet before coming to the embankment where the vehicle then went airborne before hitting the top of the bridge, one of the pillars and then the ground below. The bridge is approximately 280 feet high. He was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured. The Ohio Department of Transportation does not believe there was any structural damage to the bridge but will still inspect it.

Statistics from the Ohio Department of Public Safety in 2008 say that Madison Township had only one fatal crash, 99 injury causing crashes, 241 property damage crashes and three unknown crashes. Lake County had thirteen fatal crashes, 1,325 injury causing crashes, 4,622 property damage crashes and 38 unknown crashes.
