A fourth-grade Lorain school teacher, died at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland after she was in a head on collision last week. The crash happened in the 4300 block of Broadway in Sheffield Township. According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, a man from Strongsville swerved to avoid a bicyclist, went left of center and collided with the teacher’s car. Both parties had to be extricated from their vehicles and were flown to MetroHealth. The Ohio Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.

According to the Ohio Department of Public safety, in 2008 Sheffield Township had no fatal crashes and 52 crashes that injured 79. Lorain County had 29 fatal crashes killing 30 people and 1,710 injury crashes harming 2,604. In Ohio during 2008, there were 2,048 bicyclists involved in accidents. 154 deaths occurred during 2008 due to head-on collisions and seven people died because of a vehicle swerving to avoid another vehicle. In Ohio, in 2008, seven people died because of accidents caused by a vehicle swerving to avoid another vehicle.
