Slick road conditions caused a chain reaction crash on January 19, 2011 in Holland, Ohio. Around 7:00am on West Bancroft Road in Lucas County, a red Chevy pickup and a Ford pickup collided. One of the vehicles slid into on coming traffic colliding with the other. When the trucks pulled to the side of the road, the driver of the Chevy pickup allegedly got out to inspect the damage when an oncoming car hit him. This accident then sparked a chain reaction and several other cars spun off the road. The 21-year-old driver of the Chevy pickup was taken to an area hospital with severe injuries to his legs.

According to the ODPS, there were 31,802 car accidents in 2009 in the month of January. Icy conditions in 2009 caused 9,475 accidents. 1,951 had accident-related injuries, 7,384 of those resulted in property damage, and 19 in fatalities.
