A one car accident closes seven miles in both directions of I-70 for almost three hours on July 11, 2010. According to witnesses a male driver in a SUV suddenly crossed two lanes of traffic striking the retaining wall and flipping on its top. The driver was partially ejected and ended up being pinned between the vehicle and retaining wall for over an hour before rescue crews could remove him. He was transported to Miami Hospital via Careflight, he was alert and in stable condition. The other two passengers, one of them an infant,were both taken to area hospitals and are also in stable condition. The Ohio Highway Patrol, along with emergency crews from Huber Heights, Butler Township and Vandalia responded to the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

SUVs made up 15.12% of all vehicle types in accidents in 2008 according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety. While more women were injured in accidents in 2008 58,803 versus only 52,914 men the number of male drivers was higher 282,645 versus 222,062 female drivers. An astounding 63.8% of all accidents occurred during the day with 9.62% of all accidents occurring on a Sunday in 2008.

Huber Heights had a total of 899 accidents in 2008 causing only two fatalities and 300 injuries. These numbers are up from 2007 where they only had one fatality and 288 injuries. While the city of Huber Heights is largely in Montgomery County which had a total of 39 fatalities and 5,246 injuries it has also expanded into Miami, and Greene Counties.
