Ohio ranks 4th for holding doctors accountable for medical malpractice.

A recent survey by the consumer watchdog group Public Citizen found that Ohio ranks fourth in the U.S. for holding doctors accountable for medical malpractice issues. The survey compared the number of board disciplinary actions with the number of doctors in each state. The state of Ohio took 58 serious disciplinary actions against the state's 39,125 licensed doctors and physicians. This put Ohio in the top ten states for the highest disciplinary rates for the second year in a row. It is the only highly-populated state to achieve that ranking.
 
It is hard to know how many patients suffer from medical malpractice or medical negligence. Despite Ohio’s excellent track record, many medical mistakes go unreported because victims are unaware of their rights. Some estimates say that one in every one one hundred hospital patients is a victim of some form of medical negligence.
