Authorities report a man from White Bluff, Tennessee, was northbound on I-71, in Mansfield, about four miles south of the Ohio 97 interchange when he lost control of his 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo during a heavy rainstorm. His vehicle struck a 2004 Kia Rio driven by a woman from Salem, Ohio. Her vehicle was forced into the guardrail before coming to rest on the road. The Tennessee man vehicle continued on, striking a 1995 Chevy Blazer that a man from Reynoldsburg, Ohio had pulled to the right shoulder.

Troopers said all traffic on I-71 northbound was shut down for more than an hour while the crash scene was cleared. According to the Mansfield post of the Highway Patrol, no one had any life threatening injuries.

Mansfield had 352 injury crashes that caused 506 injuries in 2008 according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety. Richland County had 978 injury crashes that caused 1,392 injuries. In the state of Ohio during 2008 an average of 307.1 people were injured a day, that is one person every 4.7 minutes.
