Seneca County Car Accident Lawyer | Two Young Girls Involved in One Car Accident in Old Fort

City: Old Fort

County: Seneca

Date: July 11, 2010

Type: Car Accident

A one car accident left one young woman injured and the other was pronounced dead at the scene. The two teens were eastbound on Township Road 152 in Old Fort when the driver tried to brake losing control of the vehicle, which then turned over in a cornfield off the side of the road according to local authorities. The passenger was taken to University of Toledo Medical Center, while the driver who was ejected from the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Exact specifications of the accident are still under investigation but alcohol is not thought to be a factor.

One car accidents are far more common in the state then some might think. In 2008 the ODPS reported an estimated one third of all crashes did not involve a collision between two moving vehicles. Overturns and rollovers had the highest fatality rates in all non-collisions in 2008 with a total of 170 out of the total 228 fatalities. Fatality rates when an occupant was ejected from the vehicle were estimated to be one in every four in 2008.

Smaller cities and townships tend to have a smaller number of accidents as is the case with Pleasant Township with zero fatalities and only 21 injuries in 2008. The percentage of injuries to population was 1.2% where as a larger city such as Tiffin with a population of 18,135 only had a 0.4% of injuries in 2008. Seneca County had a reported seven fatalities and 468 injuries in 2008 while fatalities were down from the reported 15 in 2007 the number of injuries rose from 462.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family of the young girl killed in the accident described above. The loss of a family member is truly tragic.

On an unrelated but important note, as a parent, in general I think it would be important to talk to your children about the dangers of driving in a vehicle, including things such as not texting while driving, driving slower in rain and snow, being careful around train tracks, watching for drunk drivers at night, etc. While these things may not avoid all accidents, a young driver cannot have too much information. Do not trust that the driving school taught your child everything they need to stay alive on the roads. There is a reason teen insurance rates are so high. Their inexperience can be deadly.
