When loved ones are killed on-the-job, Ohio families have rights

This week, an Ohio workplace accident led to a tragic death.

A Columbus AT&T worker was found dead after being pinned between his work van and a cable-company box. The accident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, September 21 on South Hamilton Road on the East Side of Columbus. At about 7:30 a.m., a person walking by saw the body and called 911. Police stated that the worker's van apparently was not in parking gear and crushed him as he was working on the cable box.  The worker was identified as 52-year-old Bryan R. Green Pataskala.

After the death of a loved one, a family may struggle both emotionally and financially.

Dependents of workers who die from an injury sustained while on-the-job in Ohio are entitled to Ohio Worker's Compensation death benefits. However, the Ohio Workers' Compensation claim must be filed within two years of the death.

If negligence played a part in the death, the dependents may also be eligible to file a an Ohio wrongful death lawsuit.  A Columbus personal injury lawyer who specializes in Ohio wrongful death claims will be able to advise you on whether you have a negligence claim.
