No deaths occurred when a fast-moving train struck a car September 18. Two high school students survived the crash that totaled the vehicle they were driving. According to reports, the students were running late for an event, so they decided to go around the gates at the railroad crossing. The car stalled on the tracks. Luckily, the students escaped from the car before it was hit.

The larger mass of trains and the forces generated by the train usually ends up with a fatality if a person is in the car when struck by the train. It is very important to stop and look both ways when crossing a train passing. You cannot bet your life that the signal is working.  Also, don't get so close to the tracks when stopped that someone behind you could push you into the tracks if they hit you.  Make sure you have a lot of room both in front of and behind you.

Wood County, Ohio (population 121,065) had a total of 3,772 reported accidents in 2008. 14 of the total crashes were fatal, with 16 fatalities. 829 of the reported crashes were injury crashes, with a total of 1,221 injuries.
