Ashland County is located in the north-central portion of Ohio and takes it name from the estate of orator and politician Henry Clay. With just over 31,000 residents, it is difficult to glean meaningful statistics from the traffic related data when compared to the population for any single year. Still, data regarding trends is worth investigating, and it is also worth noting that Ashland County itself had a total of 965 traffic accidents in 2007 and 1,133 in 2008. The Townships of Clear Creek and Hanover are both comparatively safe for motorists while the Township of Montgomery would seem to be one of the most dangerous places for motorists in Ashland County.
In 2007, the Township of Clear Creek reported a grand total of only 29 traffic accidents and the Township of Hanover only 36. With populations of 2,069 and 2,520 respectively, these two townships are large enough to gather meaningful trend data from, even if the data on a per-year basis is suspect. The fact that both the Township of Clear Creek and the Township of Hanover were listed as relatively safe in 2008, with only 32 and 37 accidents respectively, helps paint a picture of two townships that are relatively safe for motorists.
In fact, neither the Township of Clear Creek nor the Township of Hanover reported a single traffic-related fatality during 2007 or 2008. That is a fairly impressive feat for townships with over 2000 residents apiece. The Township of Montgomery is slightly less populated than the Township of Hanover, yet it suffered from a staggering 238 traffic accidents in 2007. Fortunately, none of those accidents were fatal. Sadly, 2008 was not such a lucky year for a single motorist in the Township of Montgomery, as a single fatality was reported amongst the 256 total traffic accident in the Township of Montgomery.
There were 9 traffic-related fatalities in Ashland County during 2008, but not a single incident was related to alcohol consumption. In fact, there were no alcohol-related traffic accidents that resulted in a fatality in 2007 either, making Ashland County a surprisingly safe place in regards to drinking and driving violations. Of the 1,133 traffic accidents in 2008, only 62 of them were attributable to alcohol. In 2007, only 46 of the 965 traffic accidents in Ashland County were attributable to alcohol. Strangely enough, Montgomery is only in the top 3 for alcohol-related accidents in 2007 and in a 3-way tie in 2008 with the Townships of Green and Orange. Oddly enough, no townships within Ashland County managed to make it through 2007 or 2008 without at least a single alcohol-related traffic accident.
While the Township of Hanover is generally a regarded as a relatively safe township in Ashland County, the township did report a trio of unknown and/or attributable accidents in 2008. This is a tie for the lead within Ashland County with the Township of Montgomery, and Mohican came in a close second with a pair of unknown and/or un-attributable accidents. Oddly enough, only Vermillion reported experiencing unknown and/or un-attributable auto accidents in 2007, with a grand total of two such incidents.
