Fulton County has a very small population of just over 42,000 people. This means that any statistics gathered on automobile and/or motorcycle accidents needs to be considered carefully, primarily because there is an insufficient population to draw meaningful year by year statistics from. While Fulton County experienced a grand total of 811 crashes in 2008, it only experienced a grand total of 858 auto accidents in 2007. Fortunately, the number of fatal car accidents went down from 11 in 2007 to only 8 in 2008. Again, remember that the small population of Fulton County does make these statistics worth careful consideration.
The cities that had the highest number of fatal accidents in 2007 were Gorham with three accidents, and German and Swan Creek with two, while in 2008 the cities with two fatal crashes were Amboy and York. Townships within Fulton County with a single fatal car accident in 2007 include: Amboy, Dover, Franklin, German, and Royalton. In 2008, the townships within Fulton County that experienced a single fatal accident were limited to: Dover, Pike, Royalton, and Chesterfield. The number of cities experiencing fatal car accidents significantly decreased during 2008, though there is no clear explanation for this particular phenomenon.
The significant drop in total fatal
car accidents in Fulton County in 2008 compared to 2007 is significant primarily because the total number of car accidents remained nearly the same between the two years. In fact, the near 5% decrease in total accidents is impressive, but not nearly as much as the 30-plus percent decline in fatalities during the same timeframe. Again, remember that the small population of Fulton County can make analyzing the statistics difficult.
In 2007, the city that experienced the most traffic accidents was Swan Creek with 115, which barely topped German with 114. In 2008, Swan Creek was again atop the total accident list of Fulton County townships with 148 injuries. Once again, German followed Swan Creek with 113 total car accidents in 2008. Surprisingly, neither Swan Creek nor German are actually the largest cities within Fulton County. That particular honor goes to Clinton, which has approximately 50% more residents than German and almost 10% greater than Swan Creek. Clinton experienced only 97 car accidents in 2007 and 98 in 2008. The increase of only a single accident between 2007 and 2008 should be viewed as nothing but a statistical aberration.
The number of cities that experienced unknown and/or un-attributable accidents in 2007 include: Amboy, Clinton, Fulton, German, Swan Creek, and York. All of these cities experienced only a single unknown accident in 2007, but Pike saw two such accidents in 2008. Other cities that experienced a single unknown and/or un-attributable accident in 2008 include: Amboy, Royalton, and Swan Creek. Again, the statistics here are so small as to be worthy of careful consideration when attempting to use them for decision making purposes.
