Summit County Ohio Car Accident Attorney Discusses Statistics
Home to a significant portion of Akron residents, Summit County is listed as being home to only 87,386 people according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety. This figure differs dramatically from the 542,900 reported by the U.S. Census Report, but that is primarily because the Ohio Department of Public Safety considers metropolitan and micropolitan areas to be unique for the purposes of reporting. Summit County contains the highest point along the Ohio and Erie Canal area, which gives the northeastern Ohio county its name.
The overall traffic accident rates experienced by Summit County could be categorized as higher than average, but that may be due to the location, topology, weather conditions, and proximity to larger cities such as Akron. With a grand total of 2,125traffic accidents on record during 2007, and another 2,112 in 2008, Summit County is home to a slightly higher than average number of traffic accidents for a county in northeastern Ohio. Fortunately, the overall number of traffic related fatalities seem to be a little lower than expected, with only 10 traffic-related fatalities in 6 on record during 2007 and another 10 during 2008.
The townships that experienced the most overall traffic accidents in Summit County during 2007 were: Coventry with a total of 471 traffic accidents, Copley with 206, Springfield with 370, and Bath with a total of 351 traffic accidents on file. 2008 saw a dramatic shakeup in these numbers: Copley with a total of 455, Coventry with 442, Bath with 382, and Springfield with a total of 298 traffic accidents on file.
Immediately of interest is the fact that the township of Franklin, with 14,530 residents, is not on this list. In fact, that township reported only 3 total traffic accidents during 2007 and a single traffic accident during 2008. The fact that Franklin is the second-most populated township in Summit County yet has almost no traffic accidents on record suggests that there may be some statistical anomalies worth investigating further. After all, Springfield is home to 15,168 residents and appears on the list of overall traffic accidents during both years. Despite the fact that the Township of Springfield is the most populated township in Summit County, it routinely reports less traffic accidents than the smaller Township of Copley (population 13,641) and Coventry (population 10,900).
These facts contribute to marking both Copley and Coventry as particularly dangerous destinations for motorists in Summit County, while Franklin remains something of a mystery. If the statistics are indeed honest, then Franklin is an incredibly safe destination for motorists in Summit County. Unfortunately, the lack of traffic accidents seems too difficult to believe.
Another unusual statistic is the overall low rate of unexplained and/or un-attributable traffic accidents. Copley and Coventry both reported only 6 unexplained traffic accidents each during 2007 and Coventry topped the charts with 11 the following the year. Other than these figures, other townships only reported a small handful of such traffic accidents, which are typically common in townships in the 5,000 to 10,000 resident range.
