Wyandot County Ohio Car Accident Attorney Discusses Statistics
Located just north of the very heart of Ohio, Wyandot County is named after the Wyandot group of Native Americans. Covering 408 square miles and home to 22,908 residents according to the 2000 Census Report, Wyandot County calls Upper Sandusky its county seat as well as its largest population center. The Ohio Department of Public Safety lists only 18,304 residents in Wyandot County due to its tendency to report micropolitan and/or metropolitan areas as unique and separate for statistical purposes. A data set of only 18,304 is very small, and thus prone to significant fluctuations and thus it would be advisable to refrain from drawing any conclusions without the context of data gathered from multiple years.
The overall traffic accident rate in Wyandot County could be characterized as slightly less than average, with 569 traffic accidents reported during 2007. 2008 saw Wyandot County record another 553 traffic accidents, as well as a pair of traffic-related deaths. The 2 traffic related deaths reported during 2008 were the result of 2 separate and unique traffic accidents, a significant improvement over the 6 traffic accidents that took 10 lives on the roads of Wyandot County during 2007.
The townships that reported the highest number of overall traffic accidents in Wyandot County during 2007 were: Crane with a total of 108 traffic accidents, Salem with 79, Crawford with 78, Pitt with 61, Antrim with 42, Eden with 41, and Tymochtee with 40 traffic accidents. 2008 saw a very similar list of overall traffic accident leaders in Wyandot County: Crane with 101 traffic accidents, Pitt with 77, Crawford and Salem with 59 traffic accidents each, Eden with 48, Tymochtee with 45, and Antrim with 43 traffic accidents. These figures were provided by the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
The Township of Crane is home to 7,394 or roughly one third of the entire population of Wyandot County, and thus the township’s overall high number of traffic accidents is not necessarily indicative of a dangerous township for motorists in Wyandot County. In fact, the truth is that the Township of Crane is actually a safe haven for motorists in Wyandot County when viewed on a traffic accidents per capita basis.
The Township of Salem is quite a different story, and is home to only 1,055 residents. The comparatively small population probably contributes to the fact the Township of Salem’s statistics seem to change dramatically on a year by year basis, but it is also worth noting that 2007 saw the Township of Salem report a countywide record if 6 alcohol-related traffic accidents. The townships of Crane, Crawford, and Pitt managed to tie for second place on the overall alcohol-related traffic accidents list during 2007 with 4 qualifying incidents each.
2008 was a much more sober year on the roads of Wyandot County with only a single township reaching 3 alcohol-linked traffic accidents. That dubious honor went to the Township of Tymochtee, home to 1,186 residents. Overall, it would seem fair to characterize Wyandot County as reasonably sober on the whole, but the year to year changes require additional context.
